Homeland Security and FBI Claim Cyber Attacks at Nuclear Sites

The United States Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation have released a joint report warning of the threat of hackers on various computer network systems within nuclear power stations and other energy facilities. The joint report issued an amber warning, which is the second highest rate of sensitivity for threats. The networks which were hacked were of the companies which operate these facilities; that is, the networks which run the facility are separate from the corporate networks that were actually hacked. According to the report, the attacks on the corporate networks were attempts to lay out future plans for potential attacks on the facility networks themselves. The attacks highlight the critical conversation of how cyber attacks can increasingly damage physical infrastructure.
