IAG’s Report on Jordan’s Nuclear Program

The International Advisory Group (IAG), which was created to assess progress made toward the implementation of Jordan’s nuclear program, has recommended that Jordan should include large nuclear reactors, supplemented with Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), in order to diversify the Kingdom’s energy resources. This recommendation was set forth in the Group’s second report on the nuclear program that was concluded in November 2017. IAG is comprised of nuclear energy, safety, and regulation experts, and issued its first report on Jordan’s nuclear energy prospects in July 2016. Over the past month, Jordan has signed MOUs with Rolls Royce and Russia’s Rosatom to explore the possibility of using SMRs as part of the nuclear program.
