IAEA Facilitates Donation of Radiotherapy Machine for Refugees in Jordan

The International Atomic Energy Agency has helped Al-Bashir public hospital in Amman secure an advanced radiotherapy machine, donated by the international oncology equipment manufacturer Elekta. The radiotherapy machine will be used to treat at least 6000 cancer patients each year, including the many low-income Jordanians and refugees for whom Al-Bashir hospital is the only provider of cancer treatment in Amman. The donation was facilitated by the IAEA’s Technical Cooperation program and its Program of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT), which has also supported Al-Bashir hospital in the creation and operation of a verification system to enhance the quality and safety of radiotherapy procedures.
