EMRC Issues Statement on 2018 Activities

The Chief Commissioner of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) in Jordan, Farouq Hiari, released a press statement regarding the Commission’s activities in 2018. According to the statement, EMRC conducted around 2.4 million radiation inspections at border crossings last year, with only three shipments detected as exhibiting excessive radiation rates that were subsequently returned to their countries of origin. Other notable regulatory activities over the past year include the granting of 444 permits for importing, transporting, and re-exporting radioactive materials, as well as the issuance of licenses for institutions and individuals working in radiology, estimated at 872 and 1,437 licenses, respectively.
