Dr. Khaled Toukan, the Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), represented Jordan in a meeting of the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC), convened at the White House in Washington, DC, on November 15, 2019.
Dr. Toukan also outlined several achieved milestones of Jordan’s nuclear energy program, including the commissioning of Jordan’s first Research and Training Reactor (JRTR) in 2016, which started producing radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes, as well as the 2017 inauguration of the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), a regional facility for advanced research.
IFNEC is an international cooperation forum that explores mutual approaches among participating states toward the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
