On January 15, 2019, the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. company NuScale Power to conduct a feasibility study on the deployment of NuScale’s Small Modular Reactor (SMR) in Jordan. In 2018, Jordan shifted its plans away from the construction of a 2000 MWe large nuclear power plant and has since then expressed an interest in considering SMR technology as a more viable alternative. The estimated power generated by the NuScale’s SMRs is about 50 MWe of electricity per single module.
