Protocol on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy between Jordan and Iraq

The Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Dr. Khaled Toukan, and the Minister of Iraq’s Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), Dr. Qusai Al-Suhail, signed a new protocol on peaceful uses of atomic energy. The protocol lays the ground for future cooperation in areas of medical and industrial radioactive isotopes, as well as capacity building.

Jordan inaugurated its first nuclear research and training reactor (JRTR) in 2016, which has recently started to produce different types of radioisotopes for medical purposes, with the aim of fulfilling national and regional needs.
